As I sit next to the iStore in the Tom Bradley International terminal at LAX, I remember everything I've done in this country in the past month. Today alone I visited the historic Grammy Museum and was enthralled by the extremely realistic looking wax figures at Madame Tussauds on Hollywood Boulevard. Although there were many times I wished I had someone to share all these amazing experiences with, I can't help but think that I wouldn't have achieved half as much if I wasn't on my own. I've learnt how to catch taxi's in -16 degrees, how to makes friends with complete strangers who share the common interest of music and how to squeeze two weeks of activities into a 3 short days. Honestly I couldn't have asked for a better experience and I couldn't have met kinder people. I'm so thankful for this adventure I've been on, and as much as I want to go home, I know I'll miss hearing the constant music playing, even at 11am on Broadway in downtown Nashville and I'll miss walking on the street and wondering if I'll see someone famous. I can't wait for what lies ahead in Melbourne and I can't wait to see all of you that I haven't seen in ages; but I also can't wait to come back to this 'nation of dreamers' (to quote Amy Poehler on Parks and Recreation) and experience all that I couldn't in my short time here.
If reading my blog has done anything for you, I hope it has convinced you that as cheesy as the saying goes, you can do anything you put your mind to. After all, I'm pretty sure I was the only 17 year old girl from Australia living in Nashville by herself, and by doing this I got to meet people that I could only have dreamt of seeing. So I guess I'll see you on the other side (of the Pacific Ocean to be literal). And just because it's the last time I can say it in it's country of origin... Y'all come back now, ya hear!

So I've decided I'm the worst blogger ever.... but for some reason you are reading this now! So as some of you know, tomorrow I'm heading home to Melbourne for uni stuff. But on my way home, I've stopped in LA. Yesterday I went to Universal Studios and had an awesome time seeing a commercial being filmed in the Universal backlot in the New York area. And I decided to be really smart and walk through the House of Horrors by myself. Wow was that fun (and by 'fun' I mean incredibly horrifying where the actors all decided to attack me, probably because everyone else had dark hair and I was the only one they could see...) Anyway, I did pretty much every ride and had an awesome day in sunny LA. A nice change from the snow and rain in Nashville.
HEY!
Sorry I haven't posted much, turns out Nashville can keep you busy. Ok, well I'll go from where we left off. Saturday night I had the opportunity to go to a CD launch. It was at this cool place called The Stone Fox. I got to meet a bunch of cool people like Jesse Leary who wrote the Tim McGraw hit Where The Green Grass Grows so you can imagine how excited I was to meet her. Like so many people here, Jesse was soooooo nice. I couldn't believe that you could just casually meet people who had penned #1 hits and who have toured with people like Faith Hill and Reba McEntire. It really is a small town. On Sunday I helped out again with the ABC Nashville tour at the Bluebird and I stayed to watch a spotlight show with Adam James performing. He was such an awesome performer and writer. Almost everyone I see play here is incredible. Monday night I went to an artist workshop at Two Old Hippies. I got to meet Doak Turner and Rick Barker (Taylor's old manager) who have been helping me out heaps. I also got to meet a few other girls who are writers too and they even drove me home! (it was raining and cold). Oh and also on Monday, (i think it was monday), I got a new guitar! As you probably know (because I complain about it a lot...), I don't have a car. So it's a bit hard to walk for ages and bus with a full sized guitar in a hard case. So I bought a Breedlove passport guitar (which as you can probably guess by the name, is a smaller guitar). It sounds amazing and is super light so I'm very excited about it. On Tuesday after my songwriting class I got a really cool poncho. Just thought I'd let you know. Oh and I also think I had my first celebrity sighting!! I was waiting for the bus and I think I saw Karen Fairchild from the band Little Big Town jogging on Belmont Boulevard. Being the totally cool person I am, I didn't chase her to say hey. I probably wouldn't be able to run that fast anyway.... Wednesday I spent 5 hours at the Bluebird office rolling t shirts. Woop Woop!! So much fun!! hahah but no it was actually not that bad. I got to hear a bit about the Grammy Party on Sunday night so that was cool. Oh and on Wednesday I took my first trip to Whole Foods, the famous grocery store. They have every healthy food you could imagine and apparently you always see famous guys there. I ended up staying at the Bluebird and went to an In The Round that night (that's where a small group of 3 to 6 ish writers sit in a circle in the middle of the room, tell the stories behind their hit, or nearly hit, songs and play them for the room.) It was great as usual. Today I went to the famous Nashville Cafe, Fido, and had a very physically painful writing class. It was physically painful because we had to write in 7 minute periods, where we were writing as much as we could, so all of our arms were pretty much falling off at the end. But it was a good class. Then I went to The Mall at Green Hills and went to the Venetian Nail Spa. I've been wanting to go there since I arrived here. They do really good nails in a cool venetian style place and all the celebs go there. After an intense #130 red gel manicure, I decided I needed to get an early dinner. So I walked across the parking lot and went to another place I've been wanting to go to since I got here, The Cheesecake Factory! Delicious food and unlimited refills = happy Jazzy. Tomorrow I'm going to visit the NSAI (Nashville Songwriters Association International) headquarters for the first time on Music Row. I'm really excited because I haven't been there yet. And on Saturday I'm actually 1000 times more excited because I'm going to my first Grand Ole Opry show at the Ryman Auditorium, and Clare Bowen (the Australian actress from the show Nashville) is performing! I can't wait!! I think I'm also going to start a video blog thing, so stay on the look out. I'll be back in a few days to post again, so make sure to check back on jasminbadeboon.com. And also, if you want to sign up to my mailing list, that would be cool too.... (The link is at the top of the page and saysSubscribe). Y'all come back now, ya hear!! (Can't believe I said that...)
Hey!
So I've decided it might be cool to have a blog type thing on my website, where you'll be able to find out what I'm doing. So for that reason, I've called it Jasmin Now, so if you want to check out what I've been up to, just have a quick look at the page and you'll be able to see some photos of where I am and read some things I've written. At the moment I'm just getting ready to go to Nashville, so when the new year starts some more exciting things will be posted on this page because I will have arrived. Hope you're having a good day :) |
